Trusting God When It’s Hard

Friends,

This is tough. We all know that life is hard, (ever since the fall of creation, we knew that our lives would not be as simple as smelling daisies in the garden of Eden) but did God really have to make it this difficult?

We all have our struggles. Maybe someone you know is dying, and it’s too hard to trust the doctors, let alone God. Or maybe you’re struggling financially, and you don’t know how you’ll go survive for two weeks on nickels and dimes. Maybe you’ve been hurt by the church, or you’re angry with God. Whatever your situation may be– it’s not easy putting all your eggs in a basket with someone you can’t see in human form.

But you know, God has brought us this far. I’ve spent plenty of days within the past couple of months crying in my car, asking God what he’s doing and why. And just when I feel like giving up- he reminds me that he’s been with me every step of the way.

I’ve been walking with the LORD since 5th grade, and he has always been there– taking care of me, providing for me, and sending people into my life when I needed them most. Without God, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. I would be a meaningless creature, floating through life, clinging to the glimpse of a purpose or a thrill. Without him, I am nothing.

My favorite passage to remember is this:

Romans 5:1-5

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Wow. These are the words we need to saturate our hearts with when the world tells us that things won’t be okay. We can fill our lives with money, goods, or people, and nothing will ever satisfy us like the Father will. And even when it feels like our world is falling apart, God is there with us, and we just need to trust in his plan and timing.

Enduring what this life brings us will never be easy- but without a firm foundation on his promises and desires for us, we would be fighting a losing battle. And no matter our struggle, we know that God’s promises never come back void.

Even when this life seems unbearable, keep your eyes on the LORD and remember that we are working for his kingdom, and God takes care of his faithful servants. If no other promises give you hope, remember:

1 John 2:25

And this is what he promised us- eternal life.
